What a custom pet astronaut portrait looks like
The Astronaut style is a detailed digital painting rather than a classical oil, inspired by the official astronaut portraits taken before space missions: a white suit, a helmet under the arm or visor raised, and a starry backdrop. We swap the studio for a swirling galaxy in purples, blues and pinks.
The suit is a generic NASA-inspired design with no real agency patches, and your pet's face, markings and colors stay exactly as they are in your photo.
Because it's a modern digital painting, the astronaut style feels at home in contemporary spaces: clean white walls, playrooms, game rooms and offices. The deep galaxy colors make it one of the boldest pieces you can hang, so it often becomes the focal point of a room rather than part of a gallery wall.
Who belongs in space
Curious, adventurous pets are perfect astronauts: Huskies with their blue eyes, Border Collies, Beagles that investigate everything and cats that climb the highest shelf. The galaxy background also flatters black and white pets, whose coats contrast beautifully with the colorful stars.
- The explorer who escapes the yard to investigate
- The space cadet who chases reflections
- A pet in a family of science, sci-fi or space fans
- Kids' rooms with a planet or rocket theme
Photo tips for a space portrait
Because your pet's face appears inside an open helmet, a front-facing photo with both eyes visible works best. Ears should be clear of the frame edge. Bright, even daylight shows off fur detail against the dark galaxy. Avoid photos with sunglasses, hats or heavy filters.
Fluffy pets can look a little squished inside a helmet ring, so a photo with the ears and cheeks clearly outlined helps us fit them neatly. If your favorite photo is a bit dark, try another one taken near a window; the free preview makes it easy to compare.
Best products: wall art, tees and more
For the wall, order through the Character Pet Portrait: digital $29.99, art prints from $39.99, canvas from $89.99, sizes 8×10 to 24×36 inches. A 12×16 framed print is a great size above a child's bed or desk.
The Astronaut is also one of our favorite styles for wearables: try it on a kids' t-shirt, an adult t-shirt, a hoodie or a tumbler. The galaxy colors also look great on a blanket.
